The Camper tier is built for self-drive travelers who want to camp independently rather than stay in lodges. Vehicles come fully equipped for 1 to 5 passengers, with camping gear, campsite bookings, and 4x4 route maps handled by Terra Africa Trails so you can focus on the drive and the destination. Camper sits alongside Touring (lodge-to-lodge) and Explorer (hardcore off-road) as one of our three vehicle tiers.

Every Camper vehicle is dispatched fully fitted for self-contained camping for 1 to 5 passengers, including:

  • Rooftop tent(s) or ground tents sized to the booked party
  • Camping mattresses, bedding, and pillows
  • Portable camp kitchen with gas stove and cooking equipment
  • Fridge or coolbox for perishables
  • Camp table and chairs
  • Lighting (camp lanterns and vehicle-mounted lights)
  • Water containers and a basic recovery kit

Terra Africa Trails reserves campsites along your route in advance so you never arrive at a full camp, and provides detailed 4x4 maps and track notes for self-drive navigation between sites.

Submit an order form ahead of departure listing groceries, drinks, firewood, and other supplies. Your vehicle is stocked and ready at handover, so there is no need to shop en route.

  • How many people can a Camper vehicle sleep?

    Capacity ranges from 1 to 5 passengers depending on vehicle and tent configuration, confirmed at booking.

  • Do I need to book campsites myself?

    No. Terra Africa Trails books campsites along your route in advance as part of the Camper package.

  • Can you stock the vehicle with groceries before I arrive?

    Yes. Submit the supply order form ahead of your trip and the vehicle will be stocked and ready at handover.

  • What if I want to go further off-road than the standard tracks?

    Camper vehicles are capable 4x4s for maintained tracks and moderate off-road routes. For serious off-road terrain, see our Explorer tier.
